This small kitchen was just such a challenge and Maureen loved working through it with the family, to give them everything they wanted in a kitchen.

This 1940’s home has solid bones but needed some but needed some updates to make it perfect. A dishwasher and a separate hot water faucet for tea were on the must have list. In order for the design plan to start, the issue of cold floors and walls had to be addressed. Maureen worked with Insulation expert to take care of this so the design could proceed.

Electrical and plumbing (NS Electric and Gowing Plumbing) would also need to be relocated to make everything according to plan. Flooring and painting was also planned out and done by Tool Box Services. With the help of her trade team, a plan and budget was put in place.

While nailing down final designs the team started looking at elements they wanted in this new kitchen.

“I always like to start the vision with a source of inspiration for the space. My clients loved the look of mosaic tile for the flooring so my mission was to find one they loved and coordinate everything else around it. We literally designed this kitchen from the floor up!”

“I enjoy spending time sourcing with my clients to see what excites them and what elements they are drawn to. With a couple trips to a stone supplier (Cava Granite) we found the perfect countertop.”

“Once all the materials were selected the pieces could be put together like a large jigsaw puzzle. There are many elements to consider in a kitchen reno, right down to the color of the tile grout. We help with every detail along the way!”

Maureen says “there is usually some element of surprise in any renovation and we did have a couple, but the trades were there to help provide solutions so we could move forward with this renovation.”

Part of the kitchen design is selecting the right appliances to fit the space and design, giving them the best features available.

This Fisher and Paykel French door, 2 Drawer refrigerator is both fully featured and space saving flush design but still featuring water and ice dispenser and ActiveSmart technology keeping food fresh longer.

The Kitchen Aid 5 burner 30 inch range has the best of both worlds, it is space saving while having an extra large internal capacity featuring front controls, convection and steam rack for additional moisture while cooking and also for cleaning. It also has a gorgeous modern design.

In any kitchen with a smaller footprint, the best space saving option is to add an over the range microwave with built in ventilation. This model, from Kitchen Aid, features convection, steam option and low noise fan at 400 CFM.

When it comes to dishwashers, you cannot go wrong in any design with this Bosch 300 series model with 3rd rack for silverware and large utensils. Peace of mind comes with Aquastop leak protection, and this model is super quiet!! This one is panel ready which means it is integrated into the cabinetry for a seamless look.

Project management is one of the things Maureen enjoys about the renovation process. It removes some of the stress from the clients and gives them time to focus on their own lives. As a Residential Project Manager, she can make sure every detail is taken care of.

“It was a pleasure working on this kitchen with this family and having all the pieces come together.
